The story behind Soul of an Eagle

The bald eagle is a familiar and unforgettable presence along British Columbia’s coast, rivers and mountain valleys. Its combination of physical power, patience and extraordinary vision makes it one of Canada’s most compelling wild animals.

With this painting, Graham wanted to capture more than the appearance of an eagle. The title Soul of an Eagle reflects the inner qualities suggested by its expression: focus, independence, resilience and freedom.

The eyes form the emotional centre of the composition. Every surrounding brushstroke leads the viewer back to that direct, unwavering gaze.

The black background removes all distractions, while bold blues, yellows and oranges animate the eagle’s feathers. The result combines detailed observation with expressive colour, creating a portrait that feels alive, powerful and deeply individual.
