The Story Behind 7th Heaven

The inspiration for this work is the iconic Blackcomb Peak rising above the ski runs of 7th Heaven. Graham originally painted the scene using a predominantly monochromatic blue palette, allowing the shape of the mountain and the changing values of snow, shadow and rock to become the focus.

The blues create both distance and atmosphere. Darker passages give the peak weight and permanence, while lighter areas suggest fresh snow and clear alpine light.
