Product description
Bring the dramatic beauty of Whistler into your home
Black Tusk captures one of the most distinctive and recognizable mountain peaks in British Columbia’s Sea-to-Sky region.
The dark volcanic spire rises above sweeping snow-covered slopes beneath a dramatic sky of purple, pink and glowing orange. Deep blue shadows move through the snow, giving the mountain depth, scale and a powerful sense of atmosphere.
The contrast between the rugged black peak and the softer, colourful sky creates the emotional centre of the painting. It feels dramatic yet peaceful—a moment when fading alpine light transforms the entire landscape.
This one-of-a-kind original was created for collectors who feel connected to Whistler, Garibaldi Provincial Park and the mountains of Western Canada.

The story behind Black Tusk
Black Tusk is one of the defining natural landmarks of the Whistler area. Its dark, unmistakable summit rises above the surrounding alpine landscape in Garibaldi Provincial Park. BC Parks
For Graham, the mountain represents the scale, ruggedness and beauty that make the Sea-to-Sky corridor so inspiring. Its distinctive silhouette is recognizable from high alpine trails and viewpoints around Whistler.
In this painting, Graham emphasizes the contrast between strength and softness. The solid, dark peak is surrounded by flowing snow and a sky filled with warm colour. Purple, pink and orange create energy above the mountain, while deep blue shadows give the snowfields weight and depth.
Rather than simply documenting the location, the painting captures what it feels like to stand in the alpine as the light changes—the scale, stillness and sense of wonder that stay with you after leaving the mountain.
How Black Tusk works in a room
At 40 inches wide, this original has the visual scale needed to anchor a room without overwhelming it.
Dominant colours
- Purple and violet
- Rose pink
- Sunset orange
- Deep alpine blue
- Snow white
- Charcoal and black
Mood
The painting feels dramatic, expansive and peaceful. The dark peak communicates strength, while the colourful sky adds warmth and optimism.
Suitable spaces
Black Tusk would work particularly well:
- Above a fireplace or console
- In a Whistler or mountain property
- In a contemporary living room
- In a Vancouver home or office
- In an entranceway or reception area
- Against white, grey, charcoal or natural wood walls
- As part of a Canadian landscape collection
The horizontal composition complements fireplaces, sofas, credenzas and longer walls. Its combination of warm and cool colours works especially well with stone, wood, leather and modern neutral interiors.
Lighting
Indirect natural light will reveal the variation within the sky and snow. A warm-neutral picture light will intensify the sunset colours while maintaining the deep blues in the mountain shadows.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Canvas and presentation
Black Tusk is painted on a substantial 1½-inch-deep gallery-wrapped canvas.
The canvas edges are finished in black for a clean, contemporary presentation. The painting can be displayed without a traditional frame, although a black or natural wood floating frame would provide a more formal finish.
The original is wired and ready to hang. It is signed on the front and signed, titled and dated on the reverse.
