About the Painting
Overlord Mountain and Fissile Peak captures the crisp silence of the alpine above Whistler, British Columbia. Layers of snow, rock and distant ridgelines emerge through a restrained palette of Prussian blue and titanium white.
Graham found the inspiration for the painting while skiing near 7th Heaven on Blackcomb Mountain. From that elevated viewpoint, Overlord Mountain and the unmistakable profile of Fissile Peak rise beyond the surrounding slopes.
The monochromatic palette removes distraction and concentrates attention on the shape, light and immense scale of the mountains. The result feels cool, spacious and deeply calming—a winter landscape reduced to its essential elements.

The Story Behind the Painting
The idea for this work began with a photograph Graham took while skiing near 7th Heaven on Blackcomb Mountain. The high alpine viewpoint revealed the distinctive forms of Overlord Mountain and Fissile Peak beyond Whistler’s ski slopes.
Overlord Mountain is the highest summit in the Fitzsimmons Range, while the angular shape of Fissile Peak is one of the most recognizable features of the Whistler alpine. Both belong to the dramatic mountain environment surrounding Garibaldi Provincial Park.
Rather than recreating every natural colour, Graham worked primarily with Prussian blue and titanium white. This narrow palette emphasizes value, form and distance. Darker blues establish the weight of the mountains, while clean whites capture snow and reflected winter light.
The absence of bright colour gives the painting its stillness. It recalls the quiet experienced high above the village, where the landscape feels immense and the familiar noise of daily life disappears.
Why This Painting Works in a Room
Dominant colours
Deep Prussian blue, clean white and softly blended blue-grey.
Mood
Quiet, crisp and expansive. The painting brings the clarity and calm of a winter mountain environment indoors.
Room suitability
Especially well suited to a modern living room, office, bedroom, Whistler property, ski home or minimalist interior. The blue-and-white palette also works naturally with wood, stone, white walls and neutral furnishings.
Visual scale
At 40 inches wide, the painting can anchor a wall above a console, fireplace, desk or seating area. Its horizontal composition provides presence without overwhelming the room.
Lighting
Soft natural daylight will reveal the subtle changes in the blue and white paint. Warm evening lighting creates an appealing contrast with the cool palette. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
